Singers React to Maestro Levine’s Retirement on Social Media

Last Thursday, the Metropolitan Opera announced that Maestro James Levine would be retiring after 40 years as music director. Many singers took to social media to express their gratitude to the illustrious man who launched many young careers and who was also known as a singer-friendly conductor.

"James Levine was responsible for my having a wonderful career. He saw the potential in me from the beginning and supported and encouraged me for the next twenty years. He understood singing, but more importantly, he loved singers!" –Deborah Voigt
